It goes without saying that there are some things in this world that do not function unless all parts are physically present. A lamp cannot be turned on without a light bulb. A sink cannot turn on without a lever. A car cannot serve its purpose without an engine.
However, we humans are different. Each of us has been made by God, created for a special purpose. God gives us our purpose, and it is in knowing God that we discover this purpose and understand how to truly walk in it. Your talents and passions in life are likely connected to your purpose for existing.
Are we born whole? Do we automatically become whole at a certain age? No. Wholeness is a state of being that one is not necessarily born into, but comes with knowledge that you have been accepted by God. Wholeness comes from finding forgiveness in Christ, being healed from past hurts, and contentment (not to be confused with satisfaction or settling) with where one is in life.
Wholeness is a place of not being in want. “Not being in want?” you may ask. “What does that mean?” There is a well known passage in the Bible that refers to the kind of want I am referring to. Psalm 23 reads, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want (NKJV).” I believe that the “want” referred to here is the want of what one does not currently have. Lust and covetousness fall into this category. We know that the Bible tells us that “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19 NKJV).” He shall supply for our needs physically, emotionally, and spiritually. So it seems as though a large component of wholeness is trusting God for our futures and resting – in knowing that God sees us in our circumstance, and has our futures in His hands.
